Finally take control of what you put on your skin!
We girls can often find it difficult to go without our beauty products… However, there are many products on the market in cosmetics stores and pharmacies that contain harmful chemical products and endocrine disruptors which are dangerous if used on a long term basis. And organic products are not always the solution either, even if they are relatively free of “junk”. The solution? Make some of your cosmetics yourself at home! You’ll see, it’s as easy as one two three!
1/ A soothing vanilla lip balm
You soon won’t be able to go without it!
- 5 g (1/2 a dessertspoon) of shea butter
- 5 g (1/2 a dessertspoon) of apricot kernel oil
- 2 g (1/2 a teaspoon) of beeswax or another vegetable wax
- 2 drops of vitamin E oil or wheat germ oil (optional)
- 3 drops of vanilla essential oil
1/ Melt the shea butter, the apricot kernel oil and the bees wax in a bain marie.
2/ When the mixture is fully melted, add the wheatgerm oil (or the vitamin E oil) and the vanilla essential oil. Mix it well with a wooden spatula.
3/ Pour the whole lot into a little glass pot or an empty lipstick container and leave it to cool down before using it. Be careful, it solidifies very quickly!
2/ A facial exfoliating scrub with sugar and lemon
A gentle scrub for the delicate skin on your face.
- 2 dessertspoons of brown sugar
- 1 dessertspoon of lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of olive oil
1/ Pour the sugar into a bowl and add the lemon juice and olive oil.
2/ Mix it well.
3/ Apply the scrub to damp skin in circular movements.
4/ Rinse well with lukewarm water and gently dry your skin.
3/ A soothing mask from yoghurt and lavender
A hydrating and soothing mask that will help you sleep like a baby!
- 2 natural sugar free Greek yoghurts
- 1 dessertspoon of honey
- A few drops of lavender essential oil (or 1 teaspoon of dried lavender leaves)
1/ Pour the yoghurts into a large bowl and add the honey and the lavender essential oil (add the oil with a light touch, as lavender smells strong).
2/ Mix it well.
3/ Apply the mixture to your face, neck and chest, and leave it on for around 10 minutes.
4/ Rinse with lukewarm water and apply your usual moisturiser. You can use this mask once or twice a week.
For average sun protection, but 100% natural!
- 4 dessertspoons of shea butter
- 2 dessertspoons of coconut oil
- 2 dessertspoons of meadowfoam seed oil
- 4 dessertspoons of powdered zinc oxide
- 10 to 30 drops of chamomile essential oil to add fragrance (optional)
1/ Melt the shea butter and the coconut oil in a bain marie, stirring it with a wooden spoon.
2/ Add the meadowfoam seed oil and continue gently stirring.
3/ Add the zinc oxide, spoon by spoon. Stir it well, but always with a gentle hand.
4/ Finally add the chamomile essential oil, stir it and quickly transfer the mixture into a dark coloured glass jar (which has been sterilised with boiling water). Put it immediately into the fridge, and leave it there overnight.
5/ Apply the cream before going out in the sun and reapply it frequently.
